"The protagonist Jitesh is an honest banker who refuses to sanction a business loan to an industrialist, Satish, whose factory is running at a loss. When Satish offers a bribe to Jitesh, the latter abuses the industrialist and threatens to call the police. Undeterred by all this, Satish approaches Arora who is Jitesh’s senior officer and offers him a share in his business. Arora puts pressure on Jitesh to ignore certain norms and stipulations and approve the loan, but Jitesh succumbs neither to greed nor pressure. Arora and Satish turn hostile towards Jitesh.A few days later at the bank, Jitesh helps an unknown customer, who claims to be illiterate, to fill his withdrawal form. The customer is later identified as a conman who fraudulently withdraws money from someone else’s account. His arch rival Arora manipulates facts and Jitesh is named in the chargesheet. Jitesh is suspended from his job and faces a judicial inquiry that lasts for 14 long and painful years.During the long ordeal, Jitesh is flooded with offers to bribe his way out of the matter and this includes vigilance officers, bank officials, CID officers, court clerks and even the judge. Arora connives with businessmen and amasses huge wealth through underhand means. Arora ignores his family and takes to the wrong path in personal life also. What has destiny in store for him? Is he able to escape from the clutches of justice?"

Awesome book! Really worth a read to understand the respect for honesty. Very well sequenced and elaborated the content. Enjoyed reading the book and learnt about the zeal to be patriotic to the country and honestly doing the job worth. Above all learnt that peace of mind is more important than luxuries. And as the author says, "their is honest path or dishonest path, but no middle path ". Thanks for writing this book.

Sincere Attempt to make readers contemplate on problems of Bribery

A serious read and a very relevant one at that. Makes you recognize that even though it is extremely hard to stand against the corrupt system, it is the right thing to do. The book has a soul. When you read his book, you are inclined to believe that there are people who actually have the resolve to stand up against corruption and the colluded system even if it’s the hardest thing to do!

    A Frustratingly Real Story.....

This is story of an innocent man framed by his corrupt seniors because he refuses to pass a loan to a businessman. The court drag on a case for as long as they can, as the money is fed to those who are higher up. The minor plot twists keeps you turning the page. The whole story is realistically portrayed. The author tells us in his foreword that he has merely fictionalized it for better reading. In the light of recent events, I Refused to Bribe comes as a warning, that if corruption is not checked, we'd soon have no place to go to for justice.

Surprise package of an amazing subject

There has been a dearth of books on the subject and Gireesh’s book comes as a refreshing change from the college romances and teenage troubles we read a lot these days. It is a surprise package of an amazing subject, a well thought of plot and nicely built characters. A must-have in your bookshelf.

    An Honest Book

Well, I really wasn't that eager to complete that book, when I read the first chapter which was way casual. But, the book took no time to grasp my interest. Firstly, the history regarding the independence of India, We have just heard or read about the Indian independence. Here, The situation of families, societies, how it got transformed, how the industries started to come into being, How banks played a vital role in the development of India is all explained here. Secondly, the transformation of indian society, the culture, and corruption, how it strengthened its roots, who were the most worst hit. To explain all this, the author penned down, a wonderful character called "Jitesh". I got so eager to complete the book just to know who is punished at the end, the sudden change in the events of Jitesh life, how perfectly it was explained that, everyone in the world gets a time to prove themselves. A MUST READ BOOK IF YOU ARE THE ONE WHO HATE CORRUPTION.

“I will not let anyone walk through my mind with thier dirty feet.” ― Mahatma Gandhi

Fantastic depiction of the trials and tribulations a common "Indian" man faces in this day and age. Citations to Indian history and other historical events add a great value to this book. A must read for those who have interest in taking our country forward and towards a corruption free society. I'm really pleased that came across this book here on KOBO.

Need of the hour - Very inspiring book

This is the story of a man who faced with a situation, which a common Indian faces every day. While most of us chose to bribe our way out of troubles, this man Jitesh chose to take the difficult path. In the process everything around him changed, but he continued his struggle. Won't spoil the book by letting you know what the struggle resulted into - for that, I highly recommend you read this book.

Timely Book for India Fighting Against Corruption.

Just finished reading the e-Book version. I am an avid reader, likes to read love stories, but this book stirred my conscience. After reading the story of the bank manager – I realized that the system is in place just because of few people who take a staunch stand against corruption. Next time I am asked for bribe – I will try to refuse.
