I.N.D.I.A. leaders to meet in Delhi after LS poll results
Leaders of the I.N.D.I.A. opposition bloc would meet in New Delhi on Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning to assess the Lok Sabha poll results, sources have said.
They said top leaders of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (I.N.D.I.A.) have been asked to be in Delhi by Tuesday evening, once the counting of votes in their respective states is over.
The sources said this was decided by the opposition leaders when they met at Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge's residence here on Saturday afternoon.
"I.N.D.I.A. leaders will obviously meet after the results are declared," Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said in a post on X while denying reports that opposition parties will hold protests if the poll results go against them. - PTI
Bengal Guv urges people to remain vigilant against miscreants on counting day
West Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose on Monday urged people to accept the results of the Lok Sabha polls and remain vigilant against any disturbances caused by miscreants. He emphasised the importance of respecting the election outcome in a video message released by the Raj Bhavan.
Bose announced that the 'Peace Room' at Raj Bhavan will be open 24x7 to receive complaints regarding violence. "The nation and Bengal are eagerly awaiting tomorrow's vote count. We must respect the mandate of the people of India and Bengal, regardless of the result," Bose said.
The vote counting for West Bengal's 42 Lok Sabha seats is set for Tuesday, with trends expected around 9 am. The Election Commission will deploy over 25,000 polling staff, including observers and micro-observers, across 55 centers in the state to ensure a smooth counting process amid tight security. - PTI

Decided to keep central forces in some states to prevent post-poll violence: CEC
In a bid to prevent post-poll violence, the Election Commission (EC) has for the first time decided to continue with the deployment of central forces in some states even after the expiry of the Model Code of Conduct period, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar said on Monday.
He said while the EC believes that there would be no post-poll violence, to prevent any flare-up, the election body has, for the first time, decided to deploy central forces even after the provisions of the model code are lifted following Tuesday's counting of the votes cast in the Lok Sabha polls.
The states where the central forces would continue to be deployed include Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and Manipur, Kumar said. "Wherever we think there is a possibility (of violence)," he told a press conference here.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set for a landslide victory in India's general election. Or so claims nearly every exit poll released since the end of voting on Saturday evening. Yet, these surveys have proved spectacularly wrong in the past, and they must be read even more cautiously this time around because of the Modi government's outsize sway on the television stations that commission them.

All eyes on Manipur as Northeast awaits poll results
In Manipur, all eyes are on the outcomes of two Lok Sabha seats as the Northeastern region eagerly awaits for the results due on Tuesday.

How is counting of votes done?
Strong room where EVMs are stored is opened in the presence of candidates, their representatives, Returning Officer/Assistant RO and ECI Observer. This is videographed.
Only Control Units (CU) are brought to Counting Centres under CCTV coverage.
Round-wise CUs are brought to counting tables from Strong Rooms under continuous CCTV coverage.
Before retrieving results from CU, seals are verified, and unique serial number of CU is tallied before counting agents.
Counting agents can verify polled votes displayed on CU with that of Form 17C.
All set for counting of votes
Strong rooms containing postal ballots and EVMs for the Lok Sabha election were opened in the presence of election observers, election agents of candidates and election authorities on Tuesday.
Counting of votes will begin at 8 am with postal ballots and EVMs at 8.30 am.

BJP MP and candidate from Gorakhpur, Ravi Kishan, on Tuesday offered prayers at Panchmukhi Hanuman Temple in Gorakhpur, ahead of counting of votes.

Counting of votes begins for 542 Lok Sabha seats. Postal ballots will be counted before moving to EVMs. Irrespective of all the postal ballots being accounted for, counting of EVMs will begin within the next 30 minutes.
Very early trends show BJP-led NDA in lead
Early trends, according to various news channels, show that BJP-led NDA is leading in the Lok Sabha Election. Most of the leads have come in from Uttar Pradesh where the saffron party is leading while the opposition alliance is ahead in Tamil Nadu.

The initial trend emerging from the counting of postal ballots in most of the Lok Sabha seats in Kerala on Tuesday indicated a neck-and-neck fight between the Congress-led UDF and the CPI(M)-led LDF. Postal ballots were taken for counting at 8 am in 20 vote-counting centers across Kerala. According to initial trends, the candidates of the ruling CPI(M)-led LDF are leading in seven segments, and the nominees of the Congress-headed UDF are leading in nine constituencies.

SKM leading in lone LS seat in Sikkim
The ruling SKM was leading in the lone Lok Sabha seat in Sikkim, where counting of votes was underway on Tuesday, according to the Election Commission's website.
Sikkim Krantikari Morcha's Indra Hang Subba was ahead of his nearest rival Bharat Basnett of Citizen Action Party-Sikkim by 2,399 votes.
Polling was held for the seat on April 19.

Gujarat: BJP leading in 10 LS seats, Cong in 3; Amit Shah ahead in Gandhinagar
The BJP was leading in 10 Lok Sabha seats and the Congress in 3, as per early trends of counting underway on Tuesday for 25 constituencies in Gujarat.
Union Home Minister and BJP candidate Amit Shah was leading by more than 300 votes in the first round of counting for the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha seat, officials said.
While postal ballots were still being counted, the EVM vote counting also began simultaneously at the Commerce College in Gandhinagar, which has been turned into a counting centre.
BJP candidates were also leading in Porbandar, Ahmedabad East and Vadodara.
The Congress was ahead in Banaskantha, Sabarkantha and Patan.
The counting of votes was underway from 8 am on Tuesday at 26 counting centres across the state.
Elections were held for 25 out of the 26 Lok Sabha seats in Gujarat in a single phase on May 7.

Initial trends: TMC leading in 19, BJP in 17 seats
The TMC and the BJP were on Tuesday locked in a neck-and-neck contest in the Lok Sabha polls in West Bengal as it was leading in 19 seats, whereas the BJP was leading in 17 seats after the initial round of counting of postal ballots, Election Commission officials said.
However, TV channels reported that BJP was leading in 19 seats, whereas the TMC was ahead in 15 seats. Bengali news channel ABP Ananda, however, reported that TMC was leading in 15 seats, while the BJP was leading in 19 seats and the Congress and the CPI (M) were ahead in one seat each. Another Bengali news channel TV 9 Bangla reported that TMC was leading in 17 seats, whereas the BJP was ahead in 22 seats, whereas the Congress in one.

The BJP was leading in Tripura's two Lok Sabha seats as the counting of votes was underway on Tuesday, according to the Election Commission's website. BJP's Biplab Kumar Deb was ahead of his nearest rival Asish Kumar Saha in Tripura West parliamentary seat by 2,06,388 votes. In the Tripura East Lok Sabha seat, BJP candidate Kriti Devi Debbarman was leading by 1,96,900 votes over her nearest rival Rajendra Reang of the CPI(M).

Congress leads in lone Nagaland LS seat by over 23,000 votes
Kohima, Jun 4 (PTI) Congress candidate S Supongmeren Jamir was leading over his nearest rival Chumben Murry of the NDPP by over 23,500 votes in the lone Lok Sabha seat in Nagaland, according to the Election Commission.
Jamir polled 2,02,415 votes, while Murry 1,78,896 and Independent candidate Hayithung Tungoe Lotha got 2,927 votes.
A total of 57.72 per cent of 13.25 lakh people had cast their votes in the elections to the seat on April 19.
Counting of votes was underway at 17 counting centres.

Dehradun, Jun 4 (PTI) The BJP was leading in all five Lok Sabha seats of Uttarakhand on Tuesday, according to the Election Commission trends.
Ajay Bhatt is leading by 11,6296 votes in Nainital, Ajay Tamta by 56,292 votes in Almora, Anil Baluni by 30,355 votes in Garhwal (Pauri), Trivendra Singh Rawat by 20,101 votes in Haridwar and Mala Rajya Lakshmi Shah by 22,531 votes in Tehri Garhwal.
Independent candidate in Tehri Garhwal, Boby Panwar, a poll debutante, emerged as the closest rival to the BJP relegating Jot Singh Gunsola of the Congress to the third position in the initial rounds of counting. Counting for the five seats in the state began at 8 am.
Asaduddin Owaisi leading by a margin of 15461 votes, as per the official ECI trends.

Bhopal, Jun 4 (PTI) The BJP was leading in all the 29 Lok Sabha seats in Madhya Pradesh, as per trends available so far of vote counting underway on Tuesday.
Prominent BJP candidates who were leading included Jyotiraditya Scindia (Guna), Shivraj Singh Chouhan (Vidisha), Faggan Singh Kulaste (Mandla), Shankar Lalwani (Indore), VD Sharma (Khajuraho), Sandhya Rai (Bhind), Lata Wankhede (Sagar), Virendra Kumar (Tikamgarh), Alok Sharma (Bhopal) and Rodmal Nagar (Rajgarh).
Lalwani was leading in Indore by 2,88,639 votes over his nearest rival, while the NOTA (None Of the Above) option got 46,322 votes.
The Congress went out of the poll race in Indore after its official candidate Akshay Kanti Bam withdrew his nomination at the last moment.

Kolkata, Jun 4 (PTI) Heavyweight TMC candidate Saugata Roy was leading in the Dum Dum parliamentary seat on the northern outskirts of Kolkata, over his nearest rival, BJP's Shilbhadra Dutta, by 2,176 votes, according to initial trends available on the Election Commission's website.
Roy, who was initially trailing as per TV reports during the postal ballot counting, surged ahead of his nearest rival after the counting of EVM votes began. Roy, a three-time MP from the seat, is seeking re-election for the fourth time.
CPI(M)'s Sujan Chakraborty was trailing by 6,878 votes, according to the EC.
Punjab: Radical preacher Amritpal Singh leading by over 63,680 votes
Chandigarh, Jun 4 (PTI) Radical Sikh preacher Amritpal Singh was leading over Congress candidate Kulbir Singh Zira by 63,680 votes in Punjab's Khadoor Sahib seat, according to the Election Commission trends.
Singh fought the election as an independent.
Amritpal, the chief of the 'Waris Punjab De' outfit, is currently lodged in Assam's Dibrugarh jail under the National Security Act.
Counting of votes for the 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab began at 8 am amid tight security arrangements.

BJP candidate and actor-turned-politician Suresh Gopi appears poised for a win in the Thrissur Lok Sabha seat with a comfortable lead of over 58,000 votes against his nearest rival, according to the Election Commission figures on Tuesday.
Gopi, till around 12.15 pm, got 2,97,760 votes, surpassing the 2,93,822 total votes he received in the 2019 LS polls in Thrissur.

With latest trends showing the BJP falling below the majority mark, the Congress on Tuesday said it has become clear that it will be a staggering political and decisively moral defeat for Narendra Modi.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi appears to have cemented his victory in the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat by attaining a huge lead of over 2 lakh votes against his rivals, according to the figures given by the Election Commission.
By 12.13 pm, of the 3,77,905 votes counted, Gandhi received 2,25,691 while his nearest rival -- CPI's Annie Raja -- got 96,677 votes and BJP's K Surendran was at a distant third with 50,713 votes.

NOTA gets over 1.7 lakh votes in Indore LS seat, breaks previous record of Gopalganj
Bhopal, Jun 4 (PTI) Following the Congress' appeal to electors in Madhya Pradesh's Indore to select the 'None of the Above' option, it has so far got more than 1.7 lakh votes in the Lok Sabha seat, breaking the previous NOTA record of Gopalganj in Bihar.
NOTA gives an option to voters to reject all candidates in a constituency.
In the 2019 elections, the Gopalganj Lok Sabha seat in Bihar recorded the maximum NOTA votes at 51,660, about 5 per cent of the total votes polled in the constituency.
As per the latest data available on the EC's website amid vote counting underway on Tuesday, NOTA has so far got 1,72,798 votes in Indore, the second highest after BJP candidate Shankar Lalwani who got 9,90,698 votes.

New Delhi, Jun 4 (PTI) The BJP is leading in all seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi on Tuesday, according to trends on the Election Commission (EC) website.
The BJP's Praveen Khandelwal was initially trailing the Congress' Jai Prakash Agarwal in the Chandni Chowk seat but has now moved ahead to secure a lead of 27,041 votes, EC data showed.
The BJP's North-East Delhi candidate Manoj Tiwari, who is pitted against the Congress' Kanhaiya Kumar, was leading by a margin of 73,781 votes.

Incumbent Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna, who is accused of rape and serial sex abuse, has lost against Congress' Shreyas Patel.
Prajwal has lost by 40,000 votes against Patel, which has helped Congress win the Hassan Lok Sabha constituency after 25 years. Patel had lost against Prajwal's father HD Revanna from Holenarsipur in the Assembly polls last year.

Registration counters for new MPs activated in Parliament House complex
New Delhi, Jun 4 (PTI) Registration counters for newly-elected MPs will become operational from 2 PM on Tuesday at the Parliament House complex, the Lok Sabha Secretariat said as the counting of votes progressed.
It also said the registration counters will remain operational from 10 AM to 8 PM from June 5 to June 14.
Seeking to reduce paper work and making formalities for members seamless, the registration process will be done through an online integrated software application.
Members would not be required to sign multiple physical forms with various branches, a move that would help save a substantial amount of time.

Six independent candidates on way to victory
New Delhi, Jun 4 (PTI) Only six independent candidates appeared headed towards victory in the Lok Sabha polls this time, even as almost half of the over 8,000 candidates fought without any party affiliation.
In the first elections of 1951-52, 533 Independent candidates had contested, and 37 had won, around 6.90 per cent. In the 1957 election, out of 1,519 Independent candidates, 42 won - around 8.7 per cent. However, even in these two elections, 67 per cent of the independent candidates forfeited their deposits.
In 1962, 20 independent candidates won, around 4.2 per cent of the total, even as over 78 per cent lost their deposits.
In the 1984 polls, held soon after the death of then prime minister Indira Gandhi, 13 independent candidates won, a success rate of around 0.30 per cent, while over 96 percent lost their deposits.

Amid speculations over Nitish Kumar-led JD(U)'s next move in the wake of vote counting trends, senior party leader K C Tyagi on Tuesday said they are in the NDA and "we will be in the NDA".
"It is our final decision," Tyagi told PTI Videos here when asked about suggestions that the JD(U) may go back to the I.N.D.I.A. bloc.
According to the latest counting trends, the BJP is set to emerge as the single-largest party but will fall short of majority on its won. It'd need the support of its NDA allies to form a government.
There were suggestions in certain quarters that JD(U) might go back to the INDIA bloc which has registered an improved performance.
But Tyagi said there should an end to any such rumours.
"It is our final decision. We are in the NDA and we will be in the NDA)," Tyagi told PTI Videos here when asked about the speculation.
