KATHUA: Jammu Sanskriti School, Kathua commemorated World Environment Day on June 5, 2026, by organising a Cyclothon and Wellness Walkathon under the themes "Inspired by Nature for Climate, Our Future" and "Nasha Mukt Bharat - Healthy Youth, Healthy Nation."

The initiative was aimed at creating awareness about environmental conservation, healthy living, sustainable practices and the urgent need to build a drug-free society.

The event was attended by Rajesh Sharma, Deputy Commissioner, Kathua; Vishav Partap Singh, Assistant Commissioner Revenue; Surinder Paul Sharma, JKAS, Regional Transport Officer; Shammi Kumar, Assistant Regional Transport Officer; Vikram Kumar, Tehsildar, Kathua; Vikram Kumar, DTI Kathua; Sunil Sharma, President, Bicycle for Change Club; and Ravit Kumar, Coordinator, Bicycle for Change Club.

The programme commenced with the welcome of the dignitaries through the presentation of rosettes, welcome cards and saplings, symbolising a collective commitment towards environmental protection and sustainability. A ceremonial balloon release and an environmental pledge by participants followed the inaugural session.

The dignitaries flagged off the Cyclothon and Wellness Walkathon, encouraging students and community members to become ambassadors of environmental responsibility, physical fitness and social awareness. Participants enthusiastically cycled and walked along the designated route while spreading messages on climate action, road safety, healthy lifestyles and freedom from substance abuse.

A special note of appreciation was extended to Rajesh Sharma, Deputy Commissioner, Kathua, for his active participation and support for the initiative. Organisers said his presence among the participants reflected a strong commitment towards environmental sustainability, youth empowerment and community welfare.

One of the major highlights of the programme was a Nukkad Natak presented by students, highlighting the harmful effects of drug abuse while emphasizing the importance of environmental conservation. The performance received appreciation from both the dignitaries and the audience.

Certificates were distributed among participating students in recognition of their enthusiasm and commitment to the cause. The event also featured a group photograph session and presentation of mementos to the distinguished guests.
