IAS officer Ravi Kumar Sihag is once again in the headlines. This time, the reason is a major personal and professional decision after his marriage to fellow IAS officer Ishita Rathi.

Ravi Kumar Sihag has decided to change his service cadre so that he can live closer to his wife. After their love marriage, he will move from the Madhya Pradesh cadre to the AGMUT cadre.

The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) approved his request for cadre transfer on marriage grounds. The official order for the transfer was issued on 9 March 2026.

Who is IAS Officer Ishita Rathi?

Ishita Rathi is also an IAS officer and belongs to the AGMUT cadre. She recently took charge as the District Collector of Karaikal in Puducherry in February this year.

When did the couple get married?

Ravi Kumar Sihag and Ishita Rathi, who were batchmates in the civil services, got married on 16 December 2025. Their marriage is a love marriage that gained attention in administrative circles. Their relationship reportedly began while they were undergoing training at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) in Mussoorie.

Ravi Sihag previous posting

Before the cadre change, Ravi Kumar Sihag was serving in the Madhya Pradesh cadre. He was posted as Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) in the Revenue Department in Lakhnadon, Seoni district. It is not yet clear whether Ravi Sihag will be posted in Puducherry with his wife. Officials say his new posting under the AGMUT cadre could be in any state or union territory under this cadre.

What is the AGMUT cadre?

AGMUT stands for Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram and Union Territories. It is a joint cadre for officers of the Indian Administrative Service, Indian Police Service and Indian Forest Service. Officers in this cadre can be posted in several regions including Delhi, Chandigarh, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Puducherry, Arunachal Pradesh, Goa and Mizoram. Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are also included now. Unlike many other cadres, the AGMUT cadre is not controlled by any state government. Instead, it operates under the Ministry of Home Affairs, giving officers the chance to work in different regions.
