Former world number two Wesley So has confirmed his return to the Norway Chess tournament, where he will compete for the sixth time. So announced his participation on Wednesday, expressing his enthusiasm: 'I am delighted to be coming back to play Norway Chess.

So has maintained a top rank in international chess for over a decade. He surpassed the 2800 rating mark at his peak and achieved a 67-game unbeaten streak in classical play from 2016 to 2017. Having earned his grandmaster title at 14, So quickly became a leading figure among his peers, building an impressive career that includes the title of International Chess Federation (FIDE) World Fischer Random Champion in 2019, three US championships, an Olympiad gold medal with the United States, and multiple victories in elite international tournaments.
Known for his precision, control and deep preparation, So consistently remains competitive even against the strongest opponents.

He brings calmness, depth, and real fighting strength to every game. When he plays, you know the quality will be high.”
Norway Chess is a leading international tournament featuring the top male and female players in a unique six-player double round-robin format. Since 2024, the event has included Norway Chess Women, offering equal prize funds for men and women, reflecting a commitment to gender equality and innovation in chess.
The 2026 edition of Norway Chess will be held from May 25 to June 5 at Deichman Bjorvika in Oslo.
