New Delhi, September 2025:
In a bold move to align technology with climate action, the GreenJustice Network Foundation hosted a landmark international webinar on “AI in Education for Sustainability” on August 31, 2025, under its Advocacy for the Earth Webinar series. The event brought together educators, policymakers, technologists, students, and environmental advocates from around the globe, spotlighting the transformative potential of artificial intelligence (AI) in reshaping education for a sustainable future.
Held virtually from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM IST, the event marked a pivotal moment in the global push for inclusive, climate-conscious, and AI-driven education. The session was also the launchpad for the AI Gen Z Army—a youth-led movement designed to empower the next generation of climate leaders using AI tools and education.
Reimagining Education: AI as a Catalyst for Climate Action
Chandan Kumar, Founder & CEO of GreenJustice Network Foundation, opened the session with a compelling vision:
“Imagine a school where math and science are taught alongside real-time lessons in energy conservation and carbon reduction. Education must evolve—not just to prepare us for exams but to prepare us to solve the world’s biggest problems.”
Program Director Sneh Lata echoed this vision, highlighting AI as a tool for inclusion and empowerment:
“AI is a bridge between opportunity and access. It can mentor, guide, and solve—ensuring every child, regardless of background, can thrive as an empathetic and innovative leader.”
Together, the leadership laid the foundation for AI-powered education systems that promote both learning and climate literacy.
Global Expertise & Youth Innovation at the Forefront
The webinar featured notable thought leaders and innovators, including:
• Daniela Weber, Director, NetHope Center for the Digital Nonprofit, emphasized ethical AI deployment and the importance of bridging digital divides.
• Dr. Priya Khurana, Teacher In-Charge at Lady Irwin College, illustrated AI’s role in inclusive and adaptive education for special needs students.
• Himanshu Chaurasia, Founder & CEO of CoGrad, showcased AI-driven smart classroom models and scalable tech-based education programs aligned with India's Digital India vision.
Launch of the AI Gen Z Army: A Movement by the Youth, for the Earth
At the heart of the event was the launch of the AI Gen Z Army, an ambitious initiative to build student-led environmental innovation hubs across schools. Its roadmap includes:
1. AI-Powered Environmental Monitoring: Real-time dashboards and affordable sensors in schools to reduce energy and water usage by 10–15%.
2. Personalized Sustainability Curriculum: AI-based learning modules aligned with CBSE/NCERT, using chatbots as "Green Tutors."
3. Gamified Eco-Action App: A mobile platform with AI-verified challenges and leaderboards to drive student participation in sustainability.
4. Youth Policy & Research Hubs: Hackathons and youth-led climate research to influence local and national policy.
Chandan Kumar summed it up:
“This movement is about equipping students with the tools and vision to lead change, not just learn about it. With AI, schools become innovation labs for the planet.”
Global Relevance & Strategic Partnerships
The webinar aligned with international frameworks like UNESCO’s Ethics of AI (2021) and the Coalition for Environmentally Sustainable AI (2025), co-led by France, UNEP, and ITU. These partnerships reinforce the ethical, inclusive, and sustainable integration of AI into education.
The event’s success was made possible through expert coordination by Shahney Alam, and key partnerships with:
• CA Kritima Kumari – Relationship Coach
• Reinforce Legal
• Vividh Kala Vikas Samiti
• Campus Varta
• Champaran Kesari
Participants joined from Southeast Asia, Europe, and North America, making the webinar a truly global dialogue on AI, youth empowerment, and sustainability.
A Call to Action: From Learning to Leading
As climate challenges escalate and educational inequities persist, GreenJustice’s AI initiative is a timely intervention. By harnessing AI for sustainability education, the foundation is cultivating a generation equipped not just with climate knowledge, but with the technological tools and moral courage to act.
A key highlight was the interactive Q&A, where students engaged directly with experts—raising questions about AI’s ethics, accessibility, and climate potential—making the session deeply participatory and impactful.
