WeRoad Raises $58 Million to Expand Group Travel Business to the US

Airbnb-Backed WeRoad Begins US Travel Expansion with Austin Launch

WeRoad , the Milan-based group travel company backed by Airbnb , has raised $58 million in a Series C funding round as it prepares to expand into the United States for the first time.

The latest investment brings the company's total funding to around $100 million and will support its entry into the US market, beginning with Austin, Texas.

Founded in 2017 by Paolo De Nadai, Fabio Bin and Erika De Santi, WeRoad focuses on group travel experiences designed around shared interests and age groups, primarily targeting Millennial and Gen Z travellers.

The company organises trips that bring together small groups of travellers with similar travel styles and interests, including beach holidays, skiing trips and adventure itineraries. Most trips include between eight and 15 participants and typically run for 10 to 12 days.

Before departure, travellers are added to WhatsApp groups managed by trip coordinators to help members connect ahead of the journey. The company says the approach is designed to encourage interaction and reduce concerns around travelling with unfamiliar people.

Instead of using traditional tour guides, WeRoad works with more than 4,000 group leaders globally who act as trip coordinators and group facilitators. According to the company, the focus is placed on communication skills and group management rather than destination expertise alone.

As part of its wider growth strategy, WeRoad has also expanded into local social events through its WeMeet platform, launched in 2025. The app hosts in-person gatherings including dinners, hiking groups, yoga sessions, board game nights and networking events.

The company said more than 50,000 people attended WeMeet events across 35 cities last year, while the app recorded around 150,000 downloads.

WeRoad plans to use WeMeet as part of its US expansion strategy by building local communities before scaling its travel operations further. The company said Austin was selected as the first launch city due to its active social and community culture.

According to WeRoad, the business generated €130 million in revenue in 2025, representing a 30 per cent increase compared to the previous year. The company also said it organised trips for more than 100,000 travellers during the year.

Since its launch, WeRoad says it has served more than 300,000 customers across over 1,000 travel itineraries worldwide.
