Ri-Bhoi, (Meghalaya) April 22: The University of Science & Technology Meghalaya (USTM) on Monday had the honour of hosting Justice Iqbal Ahmed Ansari, Former Chief Justice of the High Court of Judicature at Patna, who delivered a thought-provoking special talk on "Law, Society and Their Changing Facets" at the Central Auditorium, USTM.
Addressing students, faculty members, academicians, and legal professionals, Justice Ansari
highlighted the dynamic relationship between law and society, emphasising that law must
continuously evolve to reflect social change, constitutional morality, and the aspirations of the
people. He underscored the responsibility of legal professionals to uphold justice, integrity, and
empathy in an era marked by rapid social and technological transformation.
Justice Ansari commended USTM for its strong academic environment and its focus on value-based
legal education. He appreciated the University's efforts in nurturing socially conscious and ethically
grounded law students, stating that institutions like USTM play a vital role in shaping responsible
citizens and future leaders of the justice delivery system.
"Universities such as USTM are not merely centres of learning, but platforms for nation-building. By
encouraging critical thinking, constitutional values, and community engagement, USTM is
contributing meaningfully to society," Justice Ansari observed.
He further encouraged students to remain committed to constitutional ideals, develop intellectual
honesty, and approach the legal profession as a service to society rather than merely a career. The
interactive session that followed saw enthusiastic participation from students, reflecting the impact
of the address.
The programme was organised by the University School of Law and Research (USLR), USTM, and
witnessed the presence of senior university officials, faculty members, and students. The event
concluded with a vote of thanks by the university authorities, followed by the National Anthem.
