The BJP today welcomed the release of Rs 601.92 crore by the Union Government for disaster relief in Himachal Pradesh, calling it a major boost for rehabilitation and reconstruction while simultaneously launching a sharp attack on the Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led state government over law and order, debt and governance.

State BJP president Dr Rajeev Bindal said the assistance reflects the Centre's unwavering support for Himachal in times of crisis. "Today is a day of satisfaction for Himachal Pradesh. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led central government has sent an additional Rs 601.92 crore to help our disaster-affected brothers and sisters. This will accelerate rehabilitation, reconstruction and development works," he said.

Dr Bindal thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP national president JP Nadda stating, "Because of their continuous efforts, Himachal has received nearly Rs 5,800 crore so far as disaster assistance. This proves the Modi government has stood shoulder to shoulder with the state."

However, he accused the Sukhu government of administrative collapse. Referring to recent incidents of violence, Bindal said, "Open gang wars, gunfire and attacks show that fear of law has ended in Himachal." He added that with nearly Rs 45,000 crore debt in three years, "this is not system change but system collapse."

Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur also expressed gratitude for the Centre's support stating, "Under the Post Disaster Needs Assessment, the Union Home Ministry has released Rs 601.92 crore."

At the same time, Thakur questioned the state government's implementation. "Despite such generous assistance, the state government has failed to distribute even Rs 500 crore to affected families. This raises serious questions about priorities and capacity," he said, urging transparent and speedy utilisation of funds.

He also blamed the state government for the deteriorating health system amid strikes by resident doctors and ambulance staff. "The health system has become critical due to government negligence. If any life is lost, the responsibility will lie with the state government," he warned.

Both leaders emphasised that disaster relief funds belong to the people of Himachal and must be used honestly and urgently to restore normalcy and to rebuild the state.
