The Faridkot police arrested a Haryana-based fraudster who allegedly posed as a high-ranking official to evade law enforcement.
The accused, identified as Gurmangat Singh of Fatehabad, was arrested after a confrontation at a Hi-Tech Naka near Tehna village.
A police team signalled a vehicle to stop for a routine check. Instead of cooperating, the driver claimed that the vehicle belonged to a high court judge.
When pressed for his driving licence, the suspect produced a fake Haryana Police ID card identifying him as a Sub-Inspector.
"When the team questioned his current posting, the suspect became aggressive. In a desperate bid to escape, he attempted to run over a police employee with his car before speeding away," said Jogeshwar Singh Goraya, SP (Investigation), Faridkot.
The district police launched a coordinated manhunt across Faridkot and arrested the accused in the Bir Chahal area.
The police seized a Toyota Urban Cruiser equipped with unauthorised flasher lights, multiple counterfeit Haryana
Police ID cards and fake stickers representing a high court judge affixed to the car.
Police are now investigating whether Gurmangat Singh used his fake identity to extort money or commit other frauds, said SP Goraya.
