NRC will be done in Haryana too: CM

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Sunday said that the National Register of Citizens (NRC) like exrecise will also be undertaken in Haryana.

State Assembly elections are scheduled to be held next month.

Assam's NRC list published on August 31 this year has excluded over 19 lakh people, whose citizenship rights hang in balance now. This include former legislators, armed forces personnel and other prominent people.

The government is also constructing new detention camps in the state to house those who fail to prove their Indian citizenship.

The death toll is feared to rise. Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) and NDRF are undertaking the rescue work.

Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy has ordered stopping of all boating services in the region and asked ministers to rush to the spot and oversee rescue operation.
