Addressing a press conference held in Sangrur today regarding the massive victory of the Aam Aadmi Party in the local government elections across Punjab, Aam Aadmi Party Punjab President and Cabinet Minister Aman Arora said that the people of Punjab have once again expressed their faith in the pro-people policies, transparent governance, and the work carried out by the government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.
Arora stated that elections were held for a total of 1,977 wards across Punjab. By the time the press conference began, results for 1,667 wards had been declared, out of which the Aam Aadmi Party secured victories in 831 wards, receiving more than 50 percent of the votes. He said that this victory is a direct endorsement by the people of Punjab of the work being done by the AAP government.
He further informed that the Congress Party won 305 seats, the Shiromani Akali Dal secured 168 seats, the Bharatiya Janata Party won 96 seats, and the Bahujan Samaj Party secured 08 seats, while 227 independent candidates emerged victorious. He added that many of these independent winners are also associated with the ideology of the Aam Aadmi Party and support the party.
Arora said that the opposition parties had projected these elections as a "semi-final" ahead of the Assembly elections, but through the results, the people have made it clear that the Aam Aadmi Party will also secure a major victory in the upcoming Assembly elections. He said that the people of Punjab are giving preference to politics focused on development, education, healthcare, and corruption-free governance.
Replying to a question asked by the media, Arora said that the election process in all areas, including Sunam, was conducted in a completely transparent, peaceful, and democratic manner. He added that even leaders of the opposition parties are acknowledging this fact.
He further said that in Sunam, the opposition parties had united against the Aam Aadmi Party, but due to the overwhelming support of the people, they even failed to field strong candidates. He claimed that the people of Punjab now want to promote honest and development-oriented politics in the state.
Other party leaders and workers were also present on the occasion.
