Senior Punjab Cabinet Minister Aman Arora, on the first day of 2026, presented his Vidhan Sabha constituency Sunam Udham Singh Wala with development projects worth 54.40 crore rupees as a gift.
These development projects include the Upgradation of Shaheed Udham Singh Martyrdom Memorial, two martyrdom gates, connecting around 3500 households in Sunam city to sewerage facilities, along with several other development works.
On this occasion, SDM Pramod Singla and a large number of local residents and officials were also present. After paying homage to Shaheed Udham Singh at the Shaheed Udham Singh Martyrdom Memorial and laying the foundation stone, while speaking to journalists, Aman Arora said that the Punjab Government is undertaking a complete renovation of the martyrdom memorial, which will cost 21.17 crore rupees.
In addition, two grand gates will be constructed in the area in memory of Shaheed Udham Singh Ji. Under the memorial's upgradation, not only will the basic infrastructure be expanded, but full beautification will also be carried out. Similarly, two grand gates will be built in memory of Shaheed Udham Singh as per the wishes of the people.
He said that his desire is for future generations to always remember, understand, and feel the unique martyrdom of Shaheed Udham Singh. In response to a question from journalists, he said that the Union Government should make efforts to bring back Shaheed Udham Singh's final relics/remains lying in Britain to India.
He said that he had earlier appealed to the BJP led Union Government to discuss this with the British Government. He will now appeal again to the Central Government to bring these relics back to India so that they can be respectfully kept at the martyrdom memorial.
He said that the voters of Sunam elected him with great hope and a record-breaking number of votes to send him to the Vidhan Sabha. Therefore, he is performing his duty considering it as sewa. He said that he inherited the passion for development from his late father Bhagwan Das Arora.
He wants to rise above personal interests and live up to the expectations of the people. He said that due to the incompetence of previous governments, even today around 3500 households in Sunam city lack sewerage facilities. He said that today, work has begun to soon connect these remaining 3500 households to sewerage facilities.
Under this project, a 30-kilometer pipeline will be laid at a cost of 29.54 crore rupees, after which the entire city will be connected to sewerage facilities. He said that previously, works worth 85 crore rupees in the constituency are also ongoing at full pace.
He said that all these development works, totaling 140 crore rupees, have a target to be completed by July 31, 2026. In addition, he laid foundation stones and inaugurated several other development works worth approximately 5 crore rupees in the city.
He also advised opposition parties that if they cannot contribute to development works, they should at least not create obstacles.
