Fed up with the persistent sewer overflow at the only entry and exit point of Eden City and Darpan City-3 (Paradise Palms), a delegation of local residents led by BJP Punjab State Media Head Vineet Joshi today met the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Kharar, and submitted a memorandum seeking immediate and permanent redressal of the long-pending civic issue.
The residents informed the SDM that nearly 150-200 families residing in Darpan City-3 have been facing severe hardship for the past three to four months due to the blockage of the main sewer line. The overflowing sewage has inundated the main approach road, creating serious inconvenience for commuters and posing grave public health risks.
School-going children, senior citizens and daily commuters have been the worst affected. According to the memorandum, the problem has arisen due to the failure to regularly clean the upstream sewer network.
Broken concrete manhole covers have reportedly fallen inside the sewer line and, instead of being removed, new covers were placed over them, causing complete blockage of the drainage system. The sewer line also carries waste from several neighbouring colonies before reaching Darpan City-3, making the locality the final overflow point.
Vineet Joshi urged the district administration to take immediate corrective action by deploying specialized machinery to thoroughly clean the entire sewer line, remove debris, broken manhole covers, sand and plastic waste, and ensure a permanent solution to prevent recurrence of the problem. He said residents deserve basic civic amenities and should not be forced to live amidst overflowing sewage due to administrative negligence.
Vineet Joshi was accompanied by social activist Dr. J.S. Mann and residents of Darpan City-3, including Anil Shaswat, Xavier Rubbal, Rajiv Barua, Ravinder Kumra, Aarti Thakur and Anamika Chawla. Residents from Eden City who joined the delegation included Amarjeet Kaur (Chairperson, Anmol Muskan Charitable Trust), Anamika Chawla, Kalpana Bansal, Babita Sharma, Saroj Vashisht, D.C. Verma, Sanjay Sharma, Teerth Singh Mand, Gurmeet Singh and Amit, who collectively urged the administration to resolve the long-pending sewerage issue on priority and ensure a permanent solution for the affected residents.
