iPhone 11 series launch: 5 things to expect from tonight's Apple event

"Apple will host the event at Steve Jobs Theatre in Cupertino, US, today at 10:30 pm (IST)"

The iPhone 11 series smartphones are all set to launch today, September 10th, at the Steve Jobs Theatre in Cupertino, California. Apple is expected to continue with its triple smartphone strategy, introduced back in 2017, by rolling out the rumoured iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max. The handsets will replace last year's iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max, respectively. Other than the smartphones, Apple is also expected to refresh the smartwatch and laptop series with the unveiling of the Apple Watch Series 5 and MacBook Pro 16-inch respectively, along with a new Tile-like Apple Tag, new hardware for Apple TV, and more.

The iPhone launch event will kickstart in Cupertino at 10:00 am local time (10:30 pm IST). It'll be live-streamed on Apple's website, YouTube channel, and Twitter handle for fans across the globe to catch the action live. The Apple event live stream will be accessible across devices, including iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch running iOS 10 or above.

Here's everything you can expect to see at the Apple event:

iPhone 11

Apple is reportedly returning to numeric nomenclature with its next-gen iPhones. After two years of naming its phones with roman numerals, the company will be using the name iPhone 11 for the entry-level model in its 2019 lineup, or at least that's what the rumour mill says. The iPhone 11 is expected to be a follow-up of the affordable iPhone XR smartphone last year. While Apple is said to be keeping the design of the new iPhone the same as the previous generation, it's making changes to its innards and camera. The iPhone 11 is tipped to feature dual rear cameras with a dedicated telephoto lens and the A13 chipset. The handset is likely to sport a 6.1-inch LCD panel, improved Face ID tech, and the iOS 13 running out of the box.

iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max

The iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max will be the more premium 2019 smartphones from the brand. They will have the same A13 chipset, Face ID tech, and software as the iPhone 11, but get more significant upgrades in the camera department. Both the iPhone 11 Pro and the Max version are expected to be the first Apple smartphones to come with a triple camera setup at the back. The cameras are said to have higher resolution and better lowlight performance compared to last year's models. On the other hand, just like iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, the 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max will sport 5.8-inch OLED display and a 6.5-inch OLED panels, respectively.

Apple Watch Series 5

The Apple Watch Series 5 will succeed last year's Apple Watch Series 4. The new smartwatch is likely to be inspired by its predecessor and will be an iterative upgrade and won't have any major changes. Going by previous leaks and rumours, the Apple Watch Series 5 is expected to have faster and more efficient chipset, new ceramic and titanium case options, and sleep-tracking mode. It will boot the latest WatchOS out of the box, which comes with a bunch of improvements and standalone apps. The latter allows Apple Watch apps to be installed and run independently from the paired iPhone.

MacBook Pro 16-inch

The MacBook Pro 16-inch will be another highlight of Apple's event today. The new machine is said to boast a 16-inch screen with 3,072 x 1,920 pixels resolution and slimmer bezels. The MacBook Pro's core will reportedly have Intel Coffee Lake-H Refresh CPU paired, which is the same SoC that rocks 15-inch model, paired with 32GB of RAM. The MacBook Pro 16-inch could arrive with a starting price of $3,000 (Rs 2,06,000).

Apple Tag

The Apple Tag is said to be a Tile-esque Bluetooth tracking device, and we could see its formal announcement today alongside iPhones. The tracker will reportedly use AR to help you find lost items using the FindMy app. That's all the information we can divulge at the moment.

Apple is also expected to make a bunch of announcements related to its software and services - which were announced earlier this year at WWDC - and new Apple TV hardware. In addition to these, there's always "One More Thing" at Apple event, so we will have to wait for that. Rumours are that the AirPower wireless charging mat could finally make it to the market. We'll have to wait and watch for that though, so stay tuned to 91mobiles for all the updates.
