Oracle Layoffs: American multinational technology company Oracle laid off nearly 30,000 employees globally on March 31. As the company terminated thousands of employees via email, reportedly the largest round of layoffs in the company's history, many affected workers have begun sharing posts on social media, particularly on LinkedIn, as they search for new jobs.
Oracle Employee's Viral LinkedIn Post
Amid this, an employee's post has gone viral on LinkedIn. In the post, the employee shared both the perks and benefits of being laid off from her job.
''Yikes,' I thought to myself, being one of the many, many folks impacted by recent layoffs at Oracle. But it happens, and I will enjoy sleeping in this morning lolol. I will enjoy the challenge of ambiguity, the uncomfortable-ness of saying 'I'm looking for a job,' but mostly (I think) the freedom of a rare opportunity to slow down and reflect on what I'm wanting to do next,' the employee, Claire Fontenot, wrote on LinkedIn.
In the next line, Fontenot added, 'All to say, hope everyone is doing okay!! I think it'll be okay.'
She concluded her LinkedIn post with the hashtags #OpenToWork, #Layoffs, #JobSearch, and #Oracle.
Oracle Employees Looking For Jobs
Since the layoff email landed in their inboxes, many Oracle employees have been looking for new opportunities. Fontenot is also searching for a role in the field of technical program management.
At Oracle, Fontenot served as a Senior Technical Program Manager for Product Development. She previously worked as a Business Analyst at Accenture.
Oracle Layoffs
In an internal email to staff, Oracle said the layoffs are part of a larger restructuring effort as the company shifts its focus more strongly towards artificial intelligence and cloud infrastructure.
The email said that the 'decision has been taken to streamline the operations, and as a result, unfortunately, the position you currently hold will become redundant'.
In India alone, reports suggest that around 12,000 employees have been affected, with another round of cuts expected within a month. In India, affected employees have been offered a severance package that includes 15 days' salary for every completed year of service, payment of pending wages up to the date of termination, leave encashment, gratuity where applicable, and compensation equivalent to one month's notice period. The company has also offered an additional two-month salary top-up.
