Three years after she underwent hip replacement surgery, 105-year-old Tejaben Vaktajimali continues to lead an active life, putting to rest all fears related to surgeries at an advanced age.

Tejaben was operated upon by orthopaedic surgeon Dr Vikram Shah at Shalby Hospitals.

Her son Gordhanbhai says the surgery brought significant improvement in Tejaben's comfort, movement and overall quality of life.

According to experts, performing hip replacement surgery in centenarian patients requires highly personalised planning, detailed pre-operative assessment, careful anaesthesia management and dedicated post-operative rehabilitation.

Speaking about elderly patient care, Dr Shah emphasised that age alone should not become a barrier to treatment when the patient's overall condition and clinical evaluation support intervention. With modern surgical techniques, improved perioperative care and rehabilitation support, many elderly patients can regain mobility, reduce pain and improve their quality of life, he adds.

The case of Tejaben Vaktajimali highlights the growing possibilities in advanced orthopaedic and joint replacement treatment and reinforces the importance of timely medical intervention, even in highly challenging age groups.
