Thirty-seven IPS officers have been transferred in a sweeping reshuffle that redraws the policing map of the state. The Border Range, the largest in Gujarat, has been split.
A new Banaskantha-Palanpur Range takes the total to 10.
In Ahmedabad, a new Zone 8 has been carved out in the eastern part of the city to tackle rising crime. A 2014 batch IPS officer who had been kept waiting for a posting for seven months has been appointed its DCP.
City gets new traffic, admin, intel heads
Three key changes in the city. IGP N N Chaudhari moves from city traffic to the ex-cadre post of Intelligence-2 in the State IB, in place of 2006 batch officer A G Chauhan. Chauhan has been posted as JCP Traffic, Ahmedabad city.
Tarun Duggal, 2011 batch, had been waiting seven months for a posting. He gets the vacant cadre post of DIG Administration in Ahmedabad. R T Susara, also of the 2011 batch and kept waiting, has been posted as DIG Special Branch in place of Vidhi Chaudhary, downgrading the post.
Chaudhary, 2009 batch, moves to IGP Panchmahal-Godhra Range, replacing 2006 batch officer R V Asari.
The biggest gap has been plugged. Raghvendra Vats, 2005 batch, takes over the vacant cadre post of IGP Ahmedabad Range. The post had been lying vacant for a year and a half.
New range carved
The Border Range was the biggest in the state. To maintain strict policing in the border areas, it has been split and the Banaskantha-Palanpur Range created, top police sources said. Parixita Rathod, 2007 batch, moves from IGP CID Crime to head the new range as DIG.
Nirlipt Rai, 2010 batch, moves from DIG State Monitoring Cell to DIG Rajkot Range. He replaces Ashokkumar Yadav, 2003 batch, who moves up as IGP CID Intelligence.
Vishalkumar Vaghela, 2009 batch, takes over as DIG SMC with additional charge of DIG Police Recruitment Board.
Gagandeep Gambhir, 2004 batch, becomes IGP SMC while continuing as IGP Administration, Gujarat State. Gautamkumar Parmar, 2004 batch, shifts from Bhavnagar Range to IGP CID Crime, replacing Rathod. R V Asari, 2006 batch, takes over Bhavnagar Range as IGP.
Nilesh Jajadia, 2006 batch, leaves IGP Junagadh Range for JCP Sector-2 in Vadodara. Bipin Ahire, 2006 batch, moves from Additional Director ACB to the ex-cadre post of IGP Cyber Centre of Excellence in Gandhinagar. P L Mal, 2006 batch, replaces Ahire as Additional Director ACB. K N Damor, 2006 batch, transfers from Sector-2 Surat to IGP CID Crime, upgrading the vacant cadre post. Mahendra Bagria, 2010 batch, takes his place in Surat.
Makrand Chauhan, 2007 batch, has been promoted to the rank of IGP with effect from December 2025 and appointed IGP Law and Order in Gandhinagar.
Leena Patil, 2010 batch, shifts from Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime and Law and Order) in Vadodara to the ex-cadre post of Additional Director at Gujarat Police Academy, Karai. Dipakkumar Meghani, 2010 batch, moves from DIG Law and Order to Joint Director ACB, replacing Chauhan.
2012 batch postings
Sudhir Desai goes to DIG Additional Commissioner of Police, Sector-1 and Traffic at Vadodara. Balram Meena moves from ADC to Governor to Additional Commissioner of Police, Sector-1 in Surat. Karanraj Vaghela transfers from the Economic Wing of Surat to DIG Crime in the same city, downgrading the post. S V Parmar shifts from DIG Group-15 SRPF in Mehsana to Additional Commissioner of Police, Traffic in Surat. A M Muniya moves from SRPF Group-5 in Godhra to DIG Coastal Security in Ahmedabad with additional charge of Coastal Security and Intelligence in Gandhinagar.
10 officers get postings after 7 months
Ten 2011 batch officers were first promoted to DIG and posted at the same place as SP. They were then transferred and kept waiting for seven months. All ten now have postings.
Hiteshkumar Joysar goes to DIG Intelligence, Gandhinagar. Tarun Duggal to Additional Commissioner of Police, Administration in Ahmedabad. Chaitanya Mandlik to Additional Commissioner of Police, Traffic-Crime and Administration in Rajkot.
Saroj Kumari gets DIG Prisons, Vadodara Central Jail. Rajendrasinh Chudasma goes to DIG Junagadh Range. R P Barot to DIG Prisons, Ahmedabad Central Jail. Girish Pandya to DIG Prisons, Rajkot.
R T Susara has been appointed Additional Commissioner of Police, Ahmedabad. Sudha Pandey goes to DIG Armed Unit, Vadodara. Sujata Mazmudar to DIG Armed Unit, Gandhinagar.
Shamsher Singh, the senior-most IPS officer of Gujarat, 1991 batch, was repatriated from central deputation in BSF in January 2026. He had been kept waiting for a posting since.
He has now been appointed Director of Civil Defence and Commandant General, Home Guards. It is the last month of his service. Singh retires on March 31. 1999 batch ADGP Wabang Jamir has been transferred from Special Commissioner of Police, Surat city and kept waiting. There is buzz in the Home Department corridors that he may be sent on deputation in the coming days.
