Police arrested a 51-year-old man within hours of a fatal hit-and-run on National Highway-48 near Chiloda, using CCTV footage, human intelligence and technical analysis to trace the vehicle.
The incident occurred on Sunday near the Mahundra bridge when an unidentified vehicle struck the complainant's father, leaving him critically injured. The driver fled. The victim later succumbed to his injuries.
Multiple teams collected CCTV footage from toll plazas, petrol pumps, hotels and restaurants along the highway. Detailed analysis, supported by human intelligence, led investigators to a four-wheeler bearing registration number GJ 27 EG 3082.
The driver, identified as Divyesh Mehta of Jay Yamuna Society, Maninagar, was traced and arrested. Police also recovered the vehicle.
