In a significant relief for postgraduate technical programmes, the state government has revised admission norms in line with the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) guidelines, allowing a second round of admissions for ME, MTech and similar PG courses if 50% or more seats remain vacant.
Earlier, a second admission cycle could be conducted only if at least 30 seats were vacant in a programme, a condition that proved impractical for many PG courses with a total intake of around 30 seats.
AICTE has permitted technical education institutions to conduct admissions twice a year. Following these guidelines, Gujarat has been implementing biannual admissions for both undergraduate and postgraduate technical programmes, including engineering and pharmacy.
