A 19-year-old MBBS student of BJ Medical College died by suicide in her hostel room on Monday afternoon, on her birthday. Jiya Daki, a native of Keshod in Junagadh, had joined BJ Medical College last year and was in the second semester of her first-year MBBS. According to police, on Monday afternoon, Jiya did not go to college and stayed in the room, telling her roommate she would join later.
Later, she hanged herself from the ceiling fan.
Around 4:15 pm, the hostel authorities came to know about the incident and informed the police, who rushed to the Devi Girls Hostel near Civil Hospital.
During the probe, police recovered a three-page suicide note from her room, addressed to her mother. In the letter, she expressed feelings of failure and loneliness and apologised for not being a "good daughter". She wrote that she could not make friends despite others trying to befriend her, which disturbed her. BJ Medical College Dean Meenakshi Parikh did not respond to calls from this paper. AM
