A listed bootlegger allegedly supplying premium liquor to select customers in Bodakdev managed to escape during a police raid, abandoning his Activa scooter and a stock of liquor.
Acting on a tip-off, Bodakdev police laid a trap on Sindhu Bhavan Road to intercept Shyam Ghantiyal. Spotting the team, he fled, leaving behind the vehicle. A search of the Activa and his residence led to the recovery of 73 bottles of premium liquor worth Rs 1.94 lakh. Police said Ghantiyal has a history of liquor offences, with eight cases registered against him across city and district police stations. A case has been registered and efforts are on to trace him.
SUV crashes near Shilaj canal; 384 liquor bottles seized
In a separate incident, Bopal police seized 384 bottles of foreign liquor after an SUV carrying the consignment crashed near Shilaj canal. Police said they attempted to intercept the vehicle on Shilaj-Rancharda Road, but the driver accelerated and tried to flee. As officers struck the window with a baton, the SUV hit a divider. Amid the confusion, the driver escaped, abandoning the vehicle.
Police recovered the liquor and seized the SUV. An investigation is underway to identify and trace the absconding driver.
