Six women were killed and at least eight others injured after a speeding luxury bus rammed into an Eeco car on Wednesday morning near a divider cut at Javangadh, on the Himmatnagar-Shamlaji National Highway.

According to reports, the victims were part of a women's group travelling from Sardoi village in Modasa to Hunj village for a social function, where they were scheduled to assist in serving food at a community feast.

Police said the Eeco car was attempting to cross through a gap in the divider when a luxury bus approaching from behind collided with it at high speed. The impact was so severe that the car was completely mangled and thrown against the divider.

Local residents and Gambhoi police rushed to the spot and began rescue operations.

Six women travelling in the car died on the spot, while eight others sustained serious injuries. The injured were initially shifted to the Gambhoi Community Health Centre via emergency services before being referred to Himmatnagar Civil Hospital due to their critical condition. Medical Officer Dr Drupad Chauhan confirmed that seven women and one man are undergoing treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were sent for post-mortem.

The deceased were identified as residents of Sardoi and nearby villages. Authorities, including district officials and senior police officers, visited the site and ordered an inquiry. Traffic was temporarily disrupted following the incident, but was later restored after police cleared the area.
