Legendary star Audrey Hepburn's son Sean Hepburn Ferrer has welcomed the casting of Lily Collins in an upcoming biopic on the screen legend, while also voicing reservations about how the story will translate to film.
Speaking to Woman's World, Ferrer said, "I have to be honest, I'm very excited, because I like Lily very much," adding, "I've watched Emily in Paris as much as I could have." Referring to the show's latest season, he quipped, "I don't think I can take that much. My teeth will fall out of my head."
Collins confirmed in February that she will portray Hepburn in a film written and produced by Alena Smith, based on Sam Wasson's book Fifth Avenue, 5 A.M.: Audrey Hepburn, Breakfast at Tiffany's and the Dawn of the Modern Woman. While Ferrer expressed admiration for the actor, he admitted to one key concern. "My big concern… is the making of it, because the whole thing revolves around one photograph of my mother standing on 5th Avenue," he said. "I'm not sure how you adapt that into a film and make it interesting. There's not a whole lot of drama."
Hepburn, who died in 1993, remains best known for Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961), directed by Blake Edwards and based on Truman Capote's novella. Ferrer revealed that Marilyn Monroe had initially been considered for the role of Holly Golightly.
"I can understand why Marilyn said no, because she probably felt like she was going to be playing herself," he said. "But if you take someone like Audrey Hepburn… it's going to create something completely new. And I think it worked."
