The All-India Congress Committee has announced the name of Bhrugurajsinh Chauhan as its candidate for the upcoming Gujarat Assembly by-election in Umreth constituency.
A postgraduate with MA-MEd degrees, 62-year-old Chauhan has held several key positions within the party. He was Pradesh Pratinidhi from 2020 to 2025 and has been the coordinator of the GPCC Central Zone since 2025. He has also been entrusted with responsibilities as PCC in-charge for multiple Assembly constituencies such as Nadiad, Mahudha, Thasra, Galteshwar and Morva Hadaf, including during previous by-elections.
At the grassroots level, Chauhan is believed to have a strong governance background, having served three consecutive terms as president of the Umreth taluka panchayat from 2000 to 2015. He headed the Mahi Katha Vikas Manch in Anand, served as secretary of the Akhil Gujarat Kshatriya Manch and acted as chairman of Ahima Seva Sahkari Mandali.
