In a significant move to strengthen tourist safety and improve visitor experience across Gujarat, DGP KLN Rao convened a high-level meeting to operationalise dedicated 'Tourist Police Stations' in major tourism hubs, in line with recommendations made during the DG and IG Conference.

The meeting also focused on developing a comprehensive framework to enhance security, accessibility, and convenience for tourists visiting the state's prominent destinations. The meeting was attended by the Inspector General of Police (Administration), Gagandeep Gambhir, and Superintendents of Police rank officers from key tourism districts, including Gir Somnath, Devbhumi Dwarka, and Dangs, where these specialised police stations will come up during the first phase of the project.

Officials said the existing police outposts at tourist locations will be upgraded into modern Tourist Police Stations through optimal utilisation of available resources. This is expected to ensure faster deployment while maintaining cost efficiency.

To improve visibility and accessibility, discussions were also held on introducing specially designed uniforms for Tourist Police personnel, along with a distinctive logo for their vehicles, enabling tourists to easily identify and approach them for assistance.

Additionally, the state plans to install help desks and kiosks at major tourist destinations using container-based infrastructure. These facilities will provide immediate assistance, guidance, and emergency support to visitors.

In a push towards digital integration, all district Superintendents of Police have been directed to develop a centralised Interactive Tourist Police Application. The platform will offer tourists access to essential information, emergency services, and security assistance through a single interface.

The meeting also emphasised ensuring adequate manpower at each Tourist Police Station, along with procurement of new vehicles and strengthening of essential infrastructure to support efficient operations.

DGP Rao said the initiative aims to maintain law and order and ensure a safe and tourist-friendly environment for visitors travelling to Gujarat.
