Veteran actor Kamal Haasan may have been the highest-paid star in the sci-fi blockbuster Kalki 2898 AD, according to filmmaker-actor Yugi Sethu.
The 2024 film, directed by Nag Ashwin, featured a massive ensemble cast including Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan and Deepika Padukone. But Sethu recently claimed that Haasan took home the biggest paycheque for the project.
Speaking to Indiaglitz, Sethu said the veteran star was paid Rs 150 crore for his role in the ambitious dystopian drama. "Kamal sir's stature is such. He is getting paid Rs 150 crore for 20 days of call sheet for Kalki 2898 AD. I told him on his birthday that he is the highest-paid actor in India and is getting $ million per day," Sethu said.
The filmmaker added that producer C Aswani Dutt later corrected him during a conversation, saying Haasan had actually shot for only 10 days. "I told him thanks for making our friend the highest-paid actor in India. When I said Rs 150 crore for 20 days, he replied, 'No, sir, he has given only 10 days.' Sorry, I correct myself then, its $2 million per day," Sethu recalled.
Despite reportedly limited screen time in the film, Haasan's character plays a pivotal role in the larger narrative. In Kalki 2898 AD, he appears as Supreme Yaskin - a powerful god-king ruling a dystopian world known as the Complex. The film's ending hints that the character will have a much larger presence in the upcoming sequel. However, the reported remuneration remains unconfirmed. Some reports have suggested Haasan may have earned closer to Rs 20 crore for the project, while others estimate the figure to be above Rs 100 crore.Agencies
