A grieving father from Bhavnagar has given three critically ill patients a chance to live, consenting to donate his 22-year-old son's organs after the young man was declared brain-dead following a bike accident.
Hirenbhai Pravinbhai Kantaria met with the accident on March 27, 2026. After initial local treatment, he was shifted to Ahmedabad Civil Hospital on March 28. Despite the doctors' efforts, he was declared brain-dead on March 30. The hospital's organ donation team, Dr Nimesh Desai and Dr Mohit Champavat, counselled the family about organ donation. His father, Pravinbhai, agreed.
Civil Hospital's 233rd donation
One liver and two kidneys were successfully donated. All transplant procedures will be carried out at the Kidney Hospital within the Civil Medicity campus. Medical Superintendent Dr Rakesh Joshi said: "With this case, the total number of organ donations at Civil Hospital has reached 233. So far, 770 organs have been donated. Additionally, 192 eye donations and 41 skin donations have been recorded, taking the total number of donated organs and tissues to 1,003."
