A major fire broke out in an open parking plot near Science City on Wednesday afternoon, destroying six vehicles and damaging several others.
No casualties were reported, officials said.
According to the Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services, the incident was reported at around 1.36 pm from an open parking area opposite Mangaldeep Apartments in the Science City area.
Fire officials rushed multiple fire-fighting units to the spot. They managed to bring the flames under control within about half an hour. However, the cooling operation continued for nearly an hour. Officials from the Thaltej Fire Station said that six parked vehicles were completely gutted in the blaze. Several vehicles parked nearby also sustained minor damage.
No injuries were reported, officials confirmed. Preliminary findings indicate that the fire may have started due to a short circuit in one of the parked vehicles. The intense afternoon heat is suspected to have further aggravated the situation, allowing the flames to spread quickly to nearby vehicles parked in the open plot.
