Supermodel Gigi Hadid has addressed her and sister Bella Hadid being named in documents linked to convicted financier Jeffrey Epstein, calling the mention "disturbing" and firmly denying any association with him.
The issue resurfaced after the release of a 2015 email exchange between Epstein and an unidentified individual, in which the latter questioned how the Hadid sisters became successful models. In the exchange, Epstein suggested their success stemmed from their ability to "follow directions".
Following the circulation of the documents, a social media user criticised Gigi for not addressing the matter. Responding in a now-deleted comment on Instagram, the model explained her initial silence.
"Horrible to read someone you've never met speak about you that way. Especially in this context," she wrote, adding, "I didn't comment bc I don't want to take away from the stories of real victims of his; but your comment made me realise maybe it's not clear - and it's important to let you know."
Gigi clarified that she had no connection to Epstein. "To be named in those files… is disturbing. And I want to state unequivocally that I have never had any affiliation with that disgusting human being," she said.
Epstein was arrested in 2019 on charges including sex trafficking of minors and conspiracy. He died by suicide in custody while awaiting trial. Over the years, multiple women have accused him of sexual abuse. Acknowledging her upbringing, Gigi said she was aware of her privilege but emphasised the values instilled by her family. She credited her parents, Mohamed Hadid and Yolanda Hadid, for teaching her discipline and hard work.
She added that since signing with a modelling agency in 2012, she has built her career through consistent effort. The model reiterated that her focus remains on her work, while also recognising the gravity of the wider case and those affected by it.IANS
