Gujarat Titans (GT) ended their sequence of three defeats with a win against Chennai Super Kings in their last match but now they will have to overcome a tougher hurdle against the inform Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Thursday at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium if they want to continue winning and strengthen their chances of making it to the knock out stage.
The Titans had let CSK off the hook after sending half of their side back to pavilion for 96 in the 16th over but they rallied to post 158. The GT assistant coach Parthiv Patel was asked if that worried the think tank. He said: "It's not a concern, but obviously, you know, we would have liked to get them out under 130-140, we were not positioned to do it."
"But yeah, that's something which we will definitely, you know, have a look and I thought we bowled really well to start with, Siraj was brilliant, Jason Holder was outstanding, Arshad came in and bowled really well," he pointed out. The Titans have an all round bowling attack but in the last matches at the Motera Stadium, their new-ball bowlers had excelled but Parthiv said they have had no option of choosing a pitch to play on. "Honestly, wickets are something which is not in our control. That's in the curator's control. We go on match day and decide according to the pitch conditions," he said.
"But I think we are well-rounded with our bowling options. We have four pace bowlers. We have Manav Sutar (left-arm spinner). We have option of Washington Sundar (off break) and also Rashid Khan (leg spinner). So, we have seven bowlers who are actually getting bowled four overs at a time. So, it's not that we have to make shift with a part-time bowler,'' he said. There may not be any worries in the RCB camp but their coach Andy Flower reckons that there's always room for improvement. At the same time he agreed that they had a good team and playing well.
They will look to win on Thursday and race to the top of the league table.
