How silence defined Jyotika's performanceActor lists emotionally layered character in System among one of her most challenging ones

Jyotika has opened up about playing one of the most layered characters of her career in System, saying silence became one of the most important tools in shaping her performance.

The actor, who stars as a courtroom stenographer in the drama, reflected on her character, Sarika, during an interaction with IANS, saying the role's emotional complexity immediately drew her in.

"For me, I really like Sarika as a character I have not played before, actually. I don't want to give away too much, but there are too many shades to her and there are a lot of layers," she said.

The actor added that much of the character's emotional journey unfolds quietly rather than through dramatic dialogue. "Also, there's a lot I'm emoting through silence, which was another factor, which was very challenging as an actor," Jyotika shared. Speaking about preparing for the courtroom setting, the Hindi and Tamil movies' star admitted her understanding of legal spaces has largely come through cinema itself. "We've seen courtrooms and also other films which have been projected very well. So each time it's like learning for us also," she said.

Jyotika added that different films often portray different kinds of courts and proceedings, making every project a learning experience for actors. "I've really not been to an actual court. So it's just through films and how real they're showing it that we're learning," she added.

System is led by Sonakshi Sinha, who plays Neha, an ambitious young advocate trying to prove herself worthy of becoming a partner in her father's law firm, played by Ashutosh Gowariker. Produced by Pammi Baweja, Harman Baweja and Smitha Baliga, the film is currently streaming on Prime Video.IANS
