Medical admission refunds: Rs 2.6cr remains unclaimed

Even after the completion of the medical and dental admission process, nearly 1,608 undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) students have yet to claim fee refunds amounting to around Rs 2.6 crore.

The students include those who failed to secure admission, cancelled their admission or became eligible for refunds under the prescribed rules. The Admission Committee recently extended the deadline until June 6 to allow students to complete the refund process. Officials said although refunds are transferred directly to students' bank accounts, many payments remain pending because students either failed to apply or provided incorrect bank account details.

With the Class 12 Science results declared and the admission process for the new academic year based on the NEET examination set to begin shortly, the committee is simultaneously trying to clear pending refunds from the previous admission cycle. The refund process was initiated in January for students admitted to NEET-based courses, including MBBS, BDS, Ayurveda and Homeopathy, who subsequently cancelled their admissions in accordance with the rules.

Sources said refunds for around 1,308 undergraduate students and approximately 300 postgraduate students are still pending.
