A fresh controversy has shaken academic circles after threatening messages and serious allegations from a WhatsApp group of the Gujarat State Government College Teachers' Association went viral, fuelling unrest among faculty.

The row escalated sharply, with the association expelling two members, including a woman professor, and terminating their membership. The association runs an official WhatsApp group with most of its members, where discussions on government work, including transfers, are routinely held. Sources said tensions flared during a recent exchange on administrative issues, particularly transfers, when some questioned government policies and functioning.

Several members allegedly flagged financial irregularities in the transfer process, claiming postings were influenced by monetary considerations and that repeated representations to the government had yielded little. The debate soon turned acrimonious as others defended the government's position.

The situation took another turn when a teacher outside the group reportedly filed a written complaint against the association's office-bearers, alleging the use of derogatory and inappropriate language by an executive committee member. Viral messages suggest some members were insulted, with remarks questioning their mental stability and hinting at coercion and influence in transfer matters, raising concerns about the body's credibility.
