British stage and screen veteran John Nolan, known for his collaborations with nephews Christopher Nolan and Jonathan Nolan, has died at 87, according to multiple media reports.
A London native, Nolan trained in theatre and spent two formative years with the Royal Shakespeare Company before transitioning to television. He gained early acclaim playing the lead in the BBC's 1970 adaptation of Daniel Deronda by George Eliot.
Nolan became familiar to global audiences through his roles in his nephew's films. He portrayed Wayne Enterprises board member Douglas Fredericks in Batman Begins and The Dark Knight Rises, both starring Christian Bale. He also appeared in Following and the war epic Dunkirk.
On television, Nolan left a lasting mark as the enigmatic John Greer in Person of Interest, joining in its second season in 2013. Across 28 episodes, he played a former MI6 agent turned architect of the Samaritan AI, one of the show's most compelling antagonists.
His extensive résumé also included films like Bequest to the Nation (1973) and Terror (1978), alongside British TV staples such as The Sweeney and Silent Witness.
