A 44-year-old woman government officer was reportedly assaulted by an elderly scooter rider and a group of bystanders following a minor traffic collision on DPS Canal Road in the Bopal area of the city.
The victim, who works as a Section Officer in Gandhinagar, has lodged an FIR with Bopal Police Station, nearly a week after the incident.
According to the complaint, Hemali Patel, a resident of Mangaljyot Tower in the Jodhpur area, was returning home from her office in Gandhinagar on the evening of May 26. She was travelling in her Tata Safari and had stopped at Lal Gebi Ashram to offer prayers before continuing her journey.
The FIR states that at around 7 pm, while Patel was passing through DPS Canal Road, a car emerging from the Harsh Prime Society turning, stopped near her vehicle. Around the same time, an elderly man riding a scooter allegedly rammed into the front wheel of her SUV.
Patel told police that her driver was behind the wheel when the collision occurred. She allegedly lowered the window and remarked to the scooter rider, "Why are you in such a hurry, uncle?" Following this, the elderly man allegedly became aggressive, dropped his scooter on the road, and approached the vehicle.
The scooter rider forcibly opened the vehicle's door and attempted to damage the window glass. He then allegedly assaulted Patel by punching her in the stomach and back. The situation reportedly escalated when several residents from a nearby society gathered at the spot. Patel alleged that one man carrying a stick and a woman dressed in a green saree also joined the assault. The group abused and threatened her with serious consequences.
Amid the chaos, an unidentified individual reportedly intervened and advised Patel to leave the area immediately.
