Google has updated its Gemini app, enabling users to turn plain text prompts and images into 8-second AI-generated videos with sound, dialogue, and movement.
A preview of this feature was shared on Saturday through a post by the official Made by Google X account, showing how quickly Gemini can make a video from a text description.
How the Google AI Video Generator works
In the demo, Google used an image of two houseplants and the prompt: 'Two animated house plants inside this home invite us to a housewarming party at Emily's this Sunday at noon.' Gemini then generated a short video showing the plants moving and talking naturally, complete with background music and ambient sounds. The clip ended with the tagline, 'Create one-of-a-kind invitations with video generation in Gemini.'
This feature showcases Google's push to make generative AI tools accessible for everyday users. With Gemini's video capabilities, anyone, even without editing skills, can design creative invitations, short clips, or messages using just a few words or images.
Who Can Use the Gemini AI Video Feature?
Currently, the video-generation tool is available only for paid subscribers under Google's AI Pro or AI Ultra plans. Free users can view generated content, but cannot create videos unless offered temporary promotional access. According to Google's support documentation, personal account users need an active Pro or Ultra plan to use this functionality.
