Bhubaneswar, July 31: The regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar has forecast an intensification of rainfall activity across Odisha from August 1, issuing a Yellow Warning for 18 districts for heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds over the next two days.
12 Districts Under Yellow Warning For Next 24 Hours
For the period between 8:30 am on July 31 and 8:30 am on August 1, the IMD has issued a Yellow Warning for Mayurbhanj, Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Kendujhar, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur and Kataka districts.
These districts are likely to witness thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph at one or two places.
Rainfall Activity To Increase From August 1
The IMD said rainfall intensity is expected to increase from August 1, prompting a Yellow Warning for 18 districts between 8:30 am on August 1 and 8:30 am on August 2.
The districts under warning are Mayurbhanj, Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Kendujhar, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, Nayagada, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Boudh, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Kendrapada and Jajpur.
These districts are likely to experience thunderstorms with lightning, gusty winds of up to 40 kmph and spells of moderate to heavy rainfall at isolated locations.
Heavy Rain Alert For Mayurbhanj And Kendujhar
For the period between 8:30 am on August 2 and 8:30 am on August 3, the IMD has issued a Yellow Warning for heavy rainfall in Mayurbhanj and Kendujhar districts.
Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are also likely to occur at many places across all districts of Odisha during the period.

Nuapada Records Highest Rainfall
According to the IMD, south interior Odisha witnessed widespread rainfall during the past 24 hours.
Sinapali in Nuapada district recorded the state's highest rainfall at 164 mm, reflecting the impact of the prevailing weather system over the region.
