The United Nations honoured 651 members of the Indian Army deployed in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) by presenting them with the United Nations Medal during a ceremonial parade at the Permanent Operating Base Sake.
The medals recognised their exemplary contribution to the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO).
The award ceremony brought together senior officials from MONUSCO, representatives of the Force Headquarters, military leadership and other distinguished guests.
The event acknowledged the Indian contingent's exceptional discipline, operational performance and dedicated service throughout its deployment.
According to the Indian Army, the contingent has carried out its responsibilities in one of the United Nations' most difficult operational theatres.
Despite ongoing armed conflict and humanitarian challenges, the personnel have remained committed to protecting civilians, strengthening security, delivering humanitarian support and implementing the UN mandate.
The Indian Army stated that the honour highlights its long-standing record as one of the United Nations' most dependable contributors to peacekeeping missions. It added that the recognition also demonstrates India's continued commitment to maintaining international peace, security and stability while supporting conflict-affected communities.
The ceremony concluded with the Indian contingent renewing its pledge to maintain the highest standards of professionalism, integrity and selfless service.
The peacekeepers also reaffirmed their resolve to continue serving under the UN Blue Flag with honour and dedication, reinforcing India's reputation as a trusted partner in global peacekeeping operations.
