Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group, will lead the foundation-laying ceremony for a large-scale rural vision care initiative in Mastichak, near Patna in Bihar.
The project aims to establish a comprehensive healthcare ecosystem focused on delivering affordable eye care services to underserved populations.
The initiative is being developed through a collaboration between the Adani Foundation and Akhand Jyoti Eye Hospital. This partnership intends to strengthen access to treatment, improve outreach services, and enhance healthcare training across northern and central India.
Once completed, the Mastichak facility is expected to evolve into one of the largest rural vision care networks globally. It will focus on expanding treatment capacity, improving last-mile access, and building a skilled healthcare workforce in the region.
The initiative reflects Gautam Adani's guiding principle of 'Seva Hi Saadhna Hai', which places service at the centre of social development. This philosophy continues to shape the Adani Group's approach towards nation-building and community welfare initiatives.
The Adani Group has steadily increased its focus on social initiatives in recent years.
In 2022, the Adani family pledged ₹60,000 crore towards healthcare, education, and skill development across India. They later announced an additional ₹10,000 crore commitment to further strengthen social development programmes.
The Group has also undertaken several large-scale outreach initiatives across the country. These include supporting millions of pilgrims during the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj and distributing free meals during the Jagannath Rath Yatra in Puri.
Founded in 2005, Akhand Jyoti Eye Hospital has grown into a leading eye care provider. The hospital has conducted over 14 lakh surgeries and delivered extensive screening services, addressing preventable blindness in rural India.
The initiative also builds on the Adani Foundation's Vision Care Programme, launched in 2024.
The programme has already conducted 1.93 lakh screenings and provided eyeglasses to 59,000 beneficiaries across 11 states.
This initiative is likely to significantly improve access to eye care in rural India. It also reinforces the Adani Group's growing emphasis on social infrastructure and inclusive development.
