Adani Green Energy Ltd (AGEL) has commissioned a cumulative 3.37 gigawatt-hour (GWh) Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Khavda in Gujarat, making it the world's largest single-location battery storage deployment outside China.
The project also ranks among the fastest utility-scale battery storage installations completed globally.
The deployment includes an additional 1.37 GWh capacity commissioned in March 2026, taking AGEL's total operational battery storage capacity at Khavda to 3.37 GWh.
The company said the facility will strengthen India's clean energy transition by enabling a reliable, round-the-clock renewable power supply.
The system can power nearly one million homes for a day and support peak electricity demand in cities like Indore and Chandigarh, as well as Goa. It can also power over 12 million LED bulbs for 10 hours.
Sagar Adani said large-scale energy storage will play a crucial role in India's renewable energy growth and reaffirmed AGEL's commitment to future-ready clean energy infrastructure.
Completed within 10 months, the project is among the world's fastest battery storage deployments and uses advanced lithium-ion battery and energy management technologies to improve grid reliability and efficiency.
AGEL has strategically located the storage system at Khavda, where it is developing the world's largest renewable energy plant with a planned capacity of 30 GW by 2029. Of this, 9.9 GW has already become operational.
The company also plans to add more than 10 GWh of battery storage capacity in FY27 and expand it to 50 GWh over the next five years.
