Bengal Assembly Budget Session Begins June 18; Full Budget Scheduled June 22

Bengal Assembly Budget Session Begins June 18; Full Budget Scheduled June 22

Bharat Express 3 weeks ago

The West Bengal Assembly will commence its budget session on June 18. The newly elected BJP-led state government will present its first full budget on June 22.

Newly appointed Assembly Speaker Rathindra Bose announced the schedule during a special House session on Friday after taking the oath as Speaker.

The upcoming budget will mark the first complete financial roadmap of the state's first BJP government since Independence.

The administration led by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari is also expected to announce the new finance minister before the budget presentation.

Earlier this year, on February 5, former Minister of State for Finance (Independent Charge) Chandrima Bhattacharya presented the interim budget under the previous Mamata Banerjee-led government.

The state deferred the full budget because West Bengal Assembly elections took place in April, with results declared on May 4.

Sources within the state administration confirmed that the Chief Minister's Office has already directed departmental secretaries to begin extensive budget preparations.

Officials stated that the budget will reflect commitments made by the ruling party during the Assembly election campaign.

The government will prioritise increasing state-generated tax revenue, reduce liabilities exceeding Rs 7 lakh crore, control escalating non-plan recurring expenditure, and expand capital spending.

The new administration faces significant fiscal challenges as the state treasury struggles with mounting debt obligations and limited revenue growth.

Financial planners are reportedly examining alternative revenue channels to stabilise the state economy and improve long-term financial sustainability.
