Bharat Express 1 week ago

Tension swept through the Ajitpura-Kujeta region of Rajasthan's Kotputli-Behror district on Monday after unidentified assailants allegedly opened fire on villagers protesting against illegal mining operations.

The incident left five people with bullet injuries, while several others sustained injuries amid the ensuing chaos.

Residents had reportedly staged demonstrations for several days, urging authorities to act against alleged unlawful mining activities in the area.

Villagers claimed the operations damaged the local environment and negatively affected their livelihoods.

The situation intensified after authorities allegedly removed tents erected at the protest site two days earlier.

On Monday, villagers gathered once again to continue their agitation. An altercation reportedly followed, after which unidentified individuals allegedly opened fire.

Eyewitnesses said the gunshots triggered panic among protesters. People rushed to seek safety as confusion spread across the area.

Authorities shifted the injured villagers to the Government BDM Hospital in Kotputli for treatment. Doctors later referred some of the seriously wounded victims to Jaipur for advanced medical care.

The firing sparked fear and unrest among residents, who demanded swift action against those responsible. Police and senior administrative officials rushed to the site after receiving information about the incident.

Security personnel quickly secured the area and worked to prevent further escalation. Kotputli DSP Rajendra Burdak confirmed that five individuals sustained injuries and are currently undergoing treatment.

Police registered a case against unidentified persons and launched a comprehensive investigation.

Authorities also formed special teams to identify and apprehend the suspects, who reportedly fled immediately after the firing.

Officials deployed additional security personnel in Ajitpura and Kujeta villages as a precautionary measure.

Senior officers, including the district police chief, continue to monitor developments closely.

The administration has assured residents that authorities will take strict action against those found responsible.
