The Ministry of Home Affairs and the Reserve Bank Innovation Hub (RBIH) on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen India's fight against cybercrime and digital financial fraud.

The agreement was signed between the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), operating under the Ministry of Home Affairs, and RBIH to improve coordination against cyber-enabled financial crimes and mule account operations across the banking ecosystem.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah reaffirmed the government's commitment towards building a cyber-secure Bharat and highlighted the growing role of Artificial Intelligence in combating digital fraud.

In a post on X, Shah stated that mule accounts remain one of the biggest obstacles in controlling cybercrime and financial fraud activities across the country.

He further explained that the partnership would integrate data from the I4C Suspect Registry into AI-powered fraud detection systems to swiftly identify and eliminate hidden mule accounts.

According to the agreement, I4C and RBIH will collaborate on intelligence sharing, fraud-risk analysis and operational coordination to strengthen banking security mechanisms.

The RBIH will utilise datasets received from I4C to train and improve AI-based fraud-risk assessment models implemented across banks and digital payment systems.

Officials stated that the initiative would significantly strengthen the country's financial cyber defence infrastructure and enhance early fraud detection capabilities.

The move aims to create a more integrated framework for identifying suspicious digital transactions while improving analytical support and intelligence-based interventions.

Authorities believe the AI-driven mechanism will serve as a next-generation protective shield for citizens against rising incidents of cyber-enabled financial fraud.

The collaboration also reflects the government's broader strategy of leveraging advanced technology to strengthen cybersecurity and improve digital payment safety nationwide.
