India Commits To TB-Free Nation With 100-Day National Campaign & New Digital Tools

Bharat Express 2 months ago

The government on Monday announced a 100-day national campaign to mark World TB Day 2026, aiming to accelerate TB elimination, implement innovative strategies, and strengthen community engagement under the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP).

The campaign will start with a national event at Gautam Buddha University in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh.

Union Health Minister JP Nadda will flag off the 'TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan - 100 Days Campaign' and launch the TB Mukt Bharat App along with the TB Mukt Urban Ward Initiative.

These initiatives will boost case detection, improve treatment adherence, and strengthen last-mile delivery of TB services, particularly in high-burden regions.

Officials said the initiative aligns with the World TB Day 2026 theme, 'Yes! We Can End TB!', showcasing India's renewed commitment to tackling the disease.

The event will gather ministers, senior Union and State officials, public health experts, development partners, healthcare professionals, and community representatives to reinforce multi-sectoral collaboration and evidence-based strategies.

Citing a recent ICMR study, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare highlighted that six-month all-oral regimens for multidrug-resistant and rifampicin-resistant TB (MDR/RR-TB) deliver better health outcomes at lower costs, saving Rs 379 per patient per additional Quality Adjusted Life Year (QALY) compared to standard regimens.

Across India, the government will further drive the campaign to promote awareness, encourage early diagnosis, and ensure effective treatment.

Health authorities will monitor progress, engage communities, and implement targeted interventions to reach high-risk populations, reaffirming the nation's commitment to a TB-Mukt Bharat and the vision of a healthier, disease-free India.
