Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said the partnership between India and the United Kingdom has created unprecedented growth opportunities for both nations and continues to expand across several strategic sectors.
After meeting UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper, PM Modi highlighted the steady progress in bilateral ties and reaffirmed the importance of long-term cooperation.
"Pleased to meet UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper. Appreciated the deepening of the India-UK partnership in recent times that has unlocked unprecedented growth opportunities for both our countries," PM Modi wrote on X.
"India-UK Vision 2035 will continue to guide our partnership and strengthen our joint efforts for the global good," he added.
Earlier in the day, Cooper met External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar in New Delhi. The discussions focused on strengthening collaboration across key sectors and exploring emerging opportunities.
"The India-UK partnership is now a forward-looking highway of shared economic ambitions and high technology! Delighted to welcome UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper on her first visit to India," Jaishankar wrote on X following the meeting.
Jaishankar said both sides reviewed progress in trade, technology, supply chains, defence, climate action, education, and people-to-people exchanges. They also discussed cooperation in clean energy, artificial intelligence, and critical minerals.
The two leaders exchanged views on major international developments, including the situations in Ukraine, West Asia, and the Indo-Pacific region.
"Our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, powered by Vision2035, continues to advance," Jaishankar noted.
In his opening remarks before the meeting, Jaishankar said India and the United Kingdom are well-positioned to build a future-oriented and mutually beneficial partnership.
He also highlighted the growing momentum in bilateral relations following UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer's visit to India in October last year and Prime Minister Modi's visit to the United Kingdom in July last year.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, India's High Commissioner to the UK P Kumaran, and other senior officials also attended the discussions, reflecting the importance both countries attach to their expanding strategic partnership.
