The Maharashtra government has resolved a long-pending issue by approving the transfer of 20 hectares (around 50 acres) of prime government land in Tathawade, Pune, for the construction of the new Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate headquarters.
The land, part of the Animal Husbandry Department's Valumata Project, will also accommodate a modern parade ground and other essential police facilities, significantly strengthening the city's law enforcement infrastructure.
The decision follows years of demand for a dedicated headquarters after the formation of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate in 2018.
Acting on the directions of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule personally coordinated with the concerned departments to expedite the proposal.
As a result, the Revenue and Forest Department issued a Government Resolution (GR) on 1 July, formally transferring the land to the Home Department.
The government has allotted the land free of occupancy charges and revenue fees, ensuring that the project places no additional financial burden on the state exchequer.
The site will house the commissionerate's administrative headquarters, a state-of-the-art parade ground and several other government offices and public facilities required for police operations.
Speaking about the decision, Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule said that the Valumata Project comprises a total area of 67.94 hectares.
The government has earmarked a contiguous 20-hectare plot for immediate transfer to the Home Department and directed the Pune District Collector to complete the process without delay.
The new headquarters will provide the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate with modern administrative and operational facilities, improving policing, coordination and public services.
The project will strengthen law and order, enhance emergency response and support the future expansion of police infrastructure in the rapidly growing Pune metropolitan region.
