Myanmar President U Min Aung Hlaing arrived in Gaya, Bihar, on Saturday to begin a five-day official visit to India aimed at deepening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation across multiple sectors.
Soon after his arrival, the Myanmar leader offered prayers at the sacred Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya, a revered Buddhist pilgrimage site. He received a warm welcome from Bihar Governor Syed Ata Hasnain at the airport.
In a post on X, the Ministry of External Affairs highlighted the enduring civilisational connections between India and Myanmar.
The ministry stated that the visit reflects the strong spiritual, historical, and people-to-people bonds shared by the two neighbouring nations, while also showcasing the depth of their ongoing partnership.
President U Min Aung Hlaing will later visit the Mahabodhi Ekta Dhamma Monastery as part of his itinerary.
On June 1, the Myanmar President will hold discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to explore ways of further strengthening bilateral relations.
The visit marks his first official trip to India since assuming the presidency on April 3.
The President has arrived with a high-level delegation comprising cabinet ministers, senior government officials, and prominent business leaders. He will also participate in a business forum during his stay.
On June 2, he will travel to Mumbai for industry engagements, business interactions, and site visits.
The Ministry of External Affairs noted that Myanmar occupies a significant position within India's Neighbourhood First, Act East, and MAHASAGAR policies.
Officials expect the visit to further enhance the multifaceted partnership between the two countries.
In April, MoS External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh attended the swearing-in ceremony and delivered PM Modi's congratulatory message.
The two leaders had also reviewed bilateral ties during the SCO Summit in Tianjin, China, last year.
