Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a meeting with Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai in New Delhi on Tuesday to examine a long-term development framework for Bastar in the aftermath of Maoist decline.
During the interaction, the Chief Minister conveyed appreciation for the return of stability in the region, attributing the achievement to sustained central support and the Prime Minister's leadership. He remarked that improved security conditions have opened avenues for structured development in Bastar.
Sai presented a detailed vision document that prioritises tourism, innovation-led enterprises, infrastructure growth, and start-up ecosystems. The proposal seeks to harness the region's potential while elevating living standards.
The strategy rests on five pillars - 'Saturate, Connect, Facilitate, Empower, and Engage'. These principles aim to accelerate the delivery of basic amenities and ensure inclusive access to essential services across Bastar.
He underlined that the framework is intended to promote equitable progress, strengthen participation, and maintain sustainability in development efforts.
The Chief Minister highlighted notable gains in education, including the rollout of Education Cities. He also emphasised progress in healthcare through the development of advanced hospitals and medical colleges.
CM Sai pointed to ongoing infrastructure projects such as barrages on the Indravati River and the expansion of railway lines. He added that airport development initiatives are also underway to further strengthen regional connectivity.
Sai extended an invitation to the Prime Minister to visit Bastar after the monsoon. The visit is expected to include the inauguration of key initiatives and the laying of foundation stones for major projects.
Emphasising that Maoist influence has receded across Chhattisgarh, including Bastar, the Chief Minister said the region is entering a phase of durable peace. He noted that the current roadmap reflects a vision articulated by the Prime Minister years ago to transform Bastar into a centre of stability and development.
The initiative is expected to create jobs, expand access to services, and drive long-term economic growth in the region.
