Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended congratulations to Rumen Radev and his Progressive Bulgaria coalition for securing a decisive mandate in the parliamentary elections in Bulgaria.

In a message posted on X, PM Modi conveyed his intent to deepen bilateral engagement and enhance the longstanding partnership between the two nations, while also strengthening regional cooperation.

The Progressive Bulgaria alliance achieved a commanding lead, securing 44.691 per cent of the vote based on 91.68 per cent of ballots counted, as reported by the Central Election Commission.

The GERB-UDF coalition followed with 13.398 per cent, closely trailed by the We Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria bloc with 13.210 per cent.

The Movement for Rights and Freedoms secured 6.233 per cent, while the Revival party obtained 4.354 per cent.

Other political groups failed to cross the 4 per cent threshold required for representation in the 240-seat parliament.

The election marked Bulgaria's eighth parliamentary poll in five years, reflecting sustained political volatility after the resignation of former Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov in December

following public protests and legislative deadlock. Despite shifting political dynamics, India and Bulgaria maintain a stable and enduring relationship built on mutual respect and shared interests.

Diplomatic ties, formally established in 1954, rest on strong cultural exchanges and people-to-people connections that predate official relations.

Both countries have consistently advanced cooperation across sectors, reinforcing a multi-dimensional partnership that continues to evolve with strategic alignment and diplomatic continuity.
